The table above shows typical 2026 ranges by event type. Use it to set a budget, then let local food trucks quote the real number.

The sources measure different things. BestFoodTrucks reports averages from confirmed bookings. Food Truck Club gives planning estimates and a lower paid-booking median of $18 per person.

That is why the ranges overlap rather than match. Rows are host-paid catering unless noted. The festival row shows a sales guarantee instead of a catering bill, because guests pay for their own food at public events.

Weddings aren't automatically pricier per person. Food Truck Club says its partner trucks charge the same per-person rates for weddings and corporate lunches. Wedding totals climb with add-ons, like a dessert truck.

Food truck minimums set the price for small events

Most food trucks require a minimum spend, whatever your headcount. If your guest count times the per-person price falls below it, you pay the minimum.

Food truck owners set minimums to cover prep, staff and travel. BestFoodTrucks' market guidelines scale with crowd size:

• Under 75 guests: $800 to $1,200
• 75 to 150 guests: $1,200 to $2,000
• 150 to 300 guests: $2,000 to $4,000

Food Truck Club's paid bookings show a lower typical minimum, around $750, with the middle half between $600 and $800. Always ask for the food truck minimum before you compare per-person prices.

Here is why it matters. Twenty guests at $30 each comes to $600. Against an $800 minimum, you are really paying $40 a head.

Catering minimum vs guaranteed sales

These are two different quotes, and many food trucks offer both. Know which one you're getting.

• Event minimum: you pay for the food, and guests eat free. The minimum is the smallest invoice the truck will accept.
• Guaranteed sales: guests buy their own food, and you promise the truck a sales floor. Food Truck League quotes $600 to $1,200 per truck for a standard shift, higher on weekends and holidays.

With a guarantee, you only pay any shortfall. If you guarantee $1,200 and guests spend $900, you owe $300.

What changes your food truck catering cost

Your quote moves with a handful of choices. Knowing them helps you trim the bill without losing the truck you want.

• Guest count. Bigger events cost more in total but often less per person. BestFoodTrucks' large office events average about $25 per person, against about $38 for birthdays.
• Menu. More choices and premium ingredients raise the price.
• Service window. More hours mean more paid crew time.
• Travel. Most trucks include travel within 25 to 50 miles. Beyond that, expect about $1 to $3 per mile, and ask if that's one-way or round-trip.
• Extra trucks. A second truck for dessert or drinks brings its own minimum.

Tax and gratuity may sit on top of the menu price. Ask each truck to show them as separate lines, so your quotes compare fairly.

How to lower your food truck catering cost

You can often bring a quote down without switching trucks. Small changes to the plan make a real difference.

• Keep the service window tight. Pay for the hours guests are actually eating.
• Choose one truck with a short menu. A second truck adds a second minimum.
• Give an honest eater count. Paying for 120 when 80 will eat wastes money, and a low count can leave you short.
• Pick a site close to the truck. Staying inside its included travel radius avoids mileage fees.
• Book early. Popular dates fill first, and more open calendars mean more quotes to compare.
• Match the model to the event. For a public event, a sales guarantee can cost far less than paying for every meal.

What a good food truck quote includes

A clear quote makes the real price easy to see. Ask every truck to itemize the same lines, so you can compare them side by side.

• Food and menu, with portions and dietary options
• Staff and the length of service
• Travel and setup charges
• Tax and gratuity
• The minimum spend, deposit and cancellation terms

Then ask one more question: "How many guests can you serve in an hour with this menu?" A cheap quote that can't feed your crowd in time isn't a bargain.

Deposits and payment terms

Deposits typically run 25 to 50 percent of the total, according to BestFoodTrucks, with the rest due before the event. Each truck sets its own terms, so get them in writing along with the cancellation policy.
